CARDIOMETABOLIC PERFORMANCE TESTING
Clinical-grade VO2 Max and metabolic analysis to quantify your true cardiovascular fitness, optimize training zones, and map one of the strongest predictors of longevity.
VO₂ MAX TESTING
VO₂ Max represents the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during increasing intensity. It reflects how efficiently your heart, lungs, vasculature, and mitochondria work together under stress. Research shows VO₂ Max is one of the most powerful predictors of longevity, cardiovascular health, and metabolic resilience.
CLINICAL-GRADE PERFORMANCE TESTING
Most VO₂ Max assessments rely on indirect estimates or consumer-grade wearables. At the Institute for Human Optimization, we use clinical metabolic gas analysis to evaluate your physiology breath-by-breath with laboratory precision.
We measure actual oxygen consumption (VO₂), carbon dioxide production (VCO₂), and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) instead of relying on predictive algorithms.
Every breath is analyzed in real time, allowing us to map ventilatory thresholds, metabolic inflection points, and true aerobic vs. anaerobic transition zones.
Your results are interpreted through both a performance lens and a longevity lens, connecting cardiovascular fitness to long-term healthspan and biological aging.
We translate your data into personalized training zones, including Zone 2, LT1, LT2, VO₂ intervals, and recovery intensities—no guesswork or generic ranges.
LONGEVITY & PERFORMANCE INSIGHTS
VO₂ Max is far more than a performance metric — it’s a window into how your heart, lungs, vasculature, and mitochondria perform under physiological stress. Higher VO₂ Max scores correlate with increased healthspan, reduced all-cause mortality, and improved metabolic flexibility.
YOUR VO₂ MAX EXPERIENCE
Your VO₂ Max session is structured, supervised, and tailored to your current fitness level. Every phase is designed to gather high-resolution data while keeping you safe and supported.
We review your health history, cardiovascular risk factors, medications, and performance goals so the protocol is aligned with both your safety and your objectives.
Resting heart rate, oxygen saturation, ventilatory parameters, and metabolic markers are recorded to establish your starting physiology and ensure you’re ready to test.
You’ll cycle on a structured ramp protocol tailored to your fitness level. Intensity increases gradually while you breathe through a comfortable metabolic mask.
Throughout the test, every breath is analyzed for oxygen uptake, carbon dioxide output, respiratory efficiency, and metabolic shifts from aerobic to anaerobic effort.
We monitor your recovery kinetics—how quickly your heart rate and ventilation return to baseline—a powerful indicator of cardiovascular fitness and longevity.
You receive a detailed explanation of your VO₂ Max, thresholds, metabolic profile, and training zones—along with longevity-focused recommendations tailored to your goals.
CORE OUTCOMES OF YOUR ASSESSMENT
Your VO2 Max and PNOE metabolic assessment reveal how your body actually uses oxygen and fuel. These data driven insights allow us to design a personalized plan that improves healthspan, performance, and sustainable body composition.
Extend your healthspan by improving VO2 Max, metabolic flexibility, and mitochondrial efficiency. These adaptations support cardiovascular, cognitive, and metabolic resilience as you age.
Train with precision using true VO2 Max data and individualized heart rate zones. Build energy, stamina, and recovery so every session moves you closer to peak performance.
Identify your personal fat burning zones and fuel mix. Accelerate fat loss while protecting lean muscle and make each workout count toward sustainable body composition change.
Receive a data rich metabolic report powered by PNOE. It outlines specific steps to reverse biological age with targeted training, nutrition, breathwork, and recovery, plus therapy recommendations delivered in our practice.

FAQ
Everything you need to know before your VO2 Max and metabolic assessment at the Institute for Human Optimization.
Plan for about 60 minutes total. This includes intake, sensor setup, the VO2 Max test, recovery metrics, and a review of your initial results.
Wear comfortable workout clothing and athletic shoes. Bring water and, if you use one, your smartwatch or fitness tracker so we can help align your new training zones.
No. The assessment is personalized to your current capacity, whether you are a beginner, postpartum, returning from injury, or highly trained. You control the pace at every stage.
PNOE provides medical grade metabolic and respiratory data that go far beyond wearables or online estimates. It measures oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide output, ventilation, and fuel utilization in real time.
Yes. Your results are translated into clear training zones, fat burning thresholds, performance insights, and longevity focused recommendations, all reviewed with a physician.
No. This is a performance and longevity focused assessment and is not billed to insurance. Some clients may be able to use HSA or FSA funds depending on their plan.
Yes. You can add Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) analysis or blood lactate threshold testing during the same visit or at a future appointment. Many clients begin with VO2 Max and PNOE, then layer in additional testing as they progress.
Yes. VO2 Max and metabolic testing should be performed in the morning in a fasted state. You may drink water, but avoid food, caffeine, and pre workout beforehand so we can capture clean, baseline data.
Unlock the data you need to train smarter, lose fat more efficiently, and improve long term healthspan with a physician led assessment built around your biology.
Schedule Your AssessmentTesting is performed in our clinical performance suite. HSA/FSA may be eligible depending on your plan.
